Pile O' Chicken's Feet! YUMMY!

So, Megan's leaving for Peru, Ana's going to Belize, Elinor's in Costa Rica, Akou's in Togo, Jennifer T just got back from China & we are getting ready for Ukraine. Phew! The girls are on the move!

This Just In From Elinor!...

Oh, Hello Dello,
I wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you while I'm down here. I miss you, but it took so long to get down here that i don't want to come back any time soon. I hate layovers.

We went to a cafè britt today, which is where they grow and process organic coffee beans. it was really cool to see how they do it. I never knew that coffee beans were red! And then when they´re shelled, they are green, and then roasted to brown them the way we always see them. I know you might not appreciate this, jenny, but I loved it and I loved the samples that we got! Oo, iced organic coffee with cinnamon in it.

So then we went to the mercado in heredia and did a scavenger hunt and one of the girls in my class got pick-pocketed. It was only a little bit exciting and thoroughly freaky. The market down there is sort of similar to a farmer´s market or soulard market, but it is weirder because you always have to watch out for pinchers and creepy people who say crude things about you. Oh, and the carnicerias are so creepy! There are dead animals hanging all over the place and I saw a whole pig´s head hanging on the wall! Eew, and a pile of chicken´s feet, which apparently people buy and eat (guacala!). Anyway, more later because I´m running out of time to do stuff before 7 when i have to be off the streets and safely back in my room.
Later, Mater

WILLIAM & MARY or BUST!

Saida Saying goodbye.JPG

THE GIRLS HAVE MADE IT!
After receiving the Presidential Scholar Award, Saida graduates Jr. High with her friends. She says goodbye & HELLO HIGH SCHOOL! When given their certificates, each teen stated where they plan to attend college...
Saida was the only one to say, "William and Mary," the alma mater of Thomas Jefferson. And yes she came up with that on her own, which did give a proud smile to her teacher & I : )
THAT will be a GREAT Adventure!

Saida's DC Dreams!

_MG_0066_crpd TJ Cake.jpg

Meet Saida...
OK, Ok, I'm a Little Biased... So what's a little bias among friends? Saida's my favorite Somalian friend! Who is also a great American Presidential historian.
Her favorite president is Thomas Jefferson! I helped her throw her class a party celebrating the 264th year since TJ's birth. She gave a great speech on the importance of President Jefferson's life. We plan on visiting Washington, D.C. & Monticello so that we can see first hand what all of this history really means. Although, she already knows much more about the American presidents than I do.
We need about $2000 to make Saida's DC Dreams Come True! If you'd like to get in on the adventure & assist us on our WDC journey... Let Me Know!

Check out Saida & I at the Arch!

http://www.edwardcrim.com/jenny_saida_arch/

There we were sitting on the bookstore floor under the Arch pouring over the incredible books. We were simply amazed at the seemingly endless ingenuity of the life of Thomas Jefferson. We were both going, "Hey look at this! Look at that!" as we flipped through pages & pages of the architectual creations, city designs, university designs, statesmen history, writings, & thoughts of this inventor.

We can't WAIT to see more of this history up close & personal. Although, Saida is quite sad that she will not be able to actually TOUCH the artifacts in Monticello. And MORE sad that she cannot take them home. But, don't worry... she'll be alright!

Don't forget to check out our photoshoot adventure at the Arch!

A Life Changing Experience: MISSION WORK! Casting Seeds in Fertile Soil! *Megan's Perspective*

Here's is an exciting article from my friend Megan. She is a 15 year old Sophmore going to Peru in a few days! Her thoughts & actions are reminding me of what we studied at camp... Philippians 2.

Lima, Peru is a large city full of poverty and beauty. I say beauty because the people are beautiful, no matter how much or little they have they are happy! They have so little and are content! That to me is amazing!

Some people wonder why a teenager would want to go thousands of miles away, leaving the comforts of home, and be stretched to do things you never thought you could! And this is my answer, I want to go because the Lord has called us to go and tell others about what He has done. We can do this whether we are at home or in other countries. I have also found that when I am serving the Lord, I am most content! When I am stretched beyond what I thought I could do, I find God teaching me so much and that I learn to trust Him more. I grow!!! This is why I love to go!

So what do we do when we are there? Well on the trip that I am going on, we will do a drama showing creation, that shows Jesus' birth, death, and His resurection! After the drama, a translator will talk to the people and explain what it means. Then someone will give their testamony about how they came to know the Lord. If anyone wishes to ask Jesus into their heart, we will pray with them, and help them find a church where they can grow and learn more! Other days we will go to villages in the higher areas and take care packages of soap, shampoo, toothbrushes...ect. We sometimes have toothbrushing clinics, because in some villages they have never had a toothbrush and don't know how to use it properly. We also get to wash the hair of some of the people, and also wash their clothes. Water must be bought and it can't be wasted on things that are not absolutely necessary for living. We may go to school and orphanages and just hang out or even dance with the kids there!

Going on a mission trip as a teen is amazing!!! God works in you so much and teaches you so many things! The whole process teaches you to trust God, because we really can't do anything without Him!

Megan Meyerhoff

Megan, thank you for your challenging thoughts! We can't wait to hear ALL about it when you return. I love the part about washing hair. That is good stuff Megan!

To my fellow Bloggies: What do YOU think? How is God challenging YOU this summer?

WHO IS This Girl?

It has been confirmed that I am a human type with XX Chromosomes. One intersects at the corner of Redemptive & Goofy. The other at the crossroads of Creative & Counselor. I have all 35 of our children's names chosen, as well as their talents. Even though they haven't been born yet. I substitute those offspring with youth & children from our community whom I take great delight in comforting, challenging, & in imagined spankings. Believe me, they need it. I am a youth leader in South St. Louis.

I look forward to heaven when all of creation can live in perfect harmony, kinda like that old Coke commercial. I already have my pets picked out for my mansion in Glory. Also, please send your resumes complete with reliable references if you have been hand selected to be my heavenly roommates. We're not sure where Shainy fits into that at the moment. However, his references do look good.

Oh, "who is this Shainy," you ask? He is the FABulous husband to the Foxy. He is thoughtful, yet not too thoughtful that he won't give his opinion. And he has a meeeeeeean Indian accent. Let me tell ya, it's so good even his Irish accent sounds like an Indian.

If I could have any super hero ability it would be a toss up between...
playing every instrument in the world & speaking every language in the world. Ok, I'd love to fly too. But that's like a cheating cheap knock off of an original.
I also enjoy cheap thrills such as editing other people's poorly written work, laughing at bad photographs, & yelling at deficiently written yard sale signs. My other real work is as a professional photographer. In my spare time I enjoy color coding, my incredible husband, and my two kitties.
In heaven, I plan to spend my time creating all of the things I didn't have time for on earth & making music & anything else that fills up the senses. Cause, seems like I never get it done or quite right here on earth.
But I do LOVE IT when a GREAT Artistic Plan comes together!

And THAT, folks, is WHO I am.
